Barry W Thornton has been active in electronic circuit, software, and product design as well as management, marketing and sales for over 45 years. He started his technology life at the age of 15 repairing TVs and radios. After college in the late 60s started the Quintessence Group, evolving the company from touring sound (Jethro Tull, Joe Cocker, Jimi Hendrix) into a high-end hi-fi manufacturer in the 1970s.
Mr. Thornton sold the 'Q-Group' in the late 70s to consult for a wide range of high-tech and entertainment companies including Monster Cable, Fostex, SAE, Hasbro Toys, the Playboy Mansion, San Francisco Ballet and Opera. During this time he also engaged in business recoveries, creating technologies and products which he evangelized and around which companies could revitalize sales and valuation which he refers to as 'Have gun – Will travel' consulting.
He maintained a 20 year consulting and evangelist management role with Monster Cable Products through the late 1980s. In 1987 he create the Professional Products Division of Monster Cable. In 1989 he became VP of Marketing and Engineering for OptoDigital Design, a Monster Cable subsidiary supplying fiber optic content networking to the entertainment industry for organizations such as Disneyland, Bulls Stadium, ABC, Televisia, BBC, Spanish and Mexican Government TV Networks. During this time period he started Sierra Sales (a consumer electronics rep company), Electronic Technology Applications (audio systems for aircraft).,
In 1996 he was co-founder of ClearCube Technology where he was the CTO and Chief Evangelist and developed the PC Blade Computing System. ClearCube sells enterprise-level computer virtualization to the military, health care, and financial markets.
In 2006 Mr. Thornton retired from ClearCube to found Austin Medical Research where he is currently COB.
